Talks and Visits

The Society's last outing of 2017 will happen on Sunday, 23rd July. We plan to visit Burtown House and Athy Heritage Centre in County Kildare.

Burtown House, is an early Georgian villa, surrounded by lush flower, vegetable and woodland gardens, and is still in the possession of the descendants of the family that built it. James Fennell, the owner, will give us a guided tour of the house, followed by a tour of the gardens. Lunch (two courses plus tea/coffee), using produce from the garden, will be served in the Green Barn Restaurant on site.

After lunch, we will visit Athy Heritage Centre with its permanent exhibition of Ernest Shackleton memorabilia as well as a history of the town.

The coach will leave Greystones, from opposite Greystones Train Station, at 10am, on Sunday, 23rd July, and we hope to return before 7pm. The cost per person, to include coach travel, entry fees and lunch, will be €45.

All members and friends are welcome. To book your place on the tour, please ring Aileen at 01 287 6416 as soon as possible.
